Whether you are building new or have an existing dwelling with a  septic, you must legally have a permitted and approved septic permit.  There are cases where people have installed their septics 'under the table' without a permit however these are not legal and 'permit or approved' units.  The authorized government agency in The Almaguin area is the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority. The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario, Canada consisting of 16 Conservation Areas. It is responsible for conservation areas within North Bay, but also extending into the surrounding municipalities.  They have records dating back to approximately 1974 and you can order a copy for a fee (which they will also email) when you supply the property information.  They have various ways to check so it is best to contact them first for information required but if you are prepared with the legal description, roll number and (hopefully) the original owners name that is a helpful start  please note that the emergency 911 numbers were not in existence for older properties so that likely won't help, yet a good legal description and a roll number will.
